Jasmine Nawon Kim

ARTS011Born in Seoul, Korea, Jasmine Nawon Kim received her Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea. After graduating, She appeared as a soloist in Cultural Exchange Concert of Korea and Japanese Flutists, Osaka, Japan as well as Seoul National University Alumni Orchestra. In addition, as a member of the Seoul Flute Ensemble she performed in numerous concerts programs abroad, including Carnegie Hall, New York and Jefferson Hall, Washington. And she entered the Master of Music degree program at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts, where she studied flute performance and literature with Doriot Anthony Dwyer and Marya Martin. After completing her degree, she went to Academia Musicale Internationale Pentarte in L’ quila, Italy to pursue performance diploma in flute. In Italy she became more active as a professional flutist. She appeared as a soloist with Orchestra dell instituto Braga di Teramo in Teramo, Concerto notte di Flautista –Association Cultural Pentarte Consorzio in L’quila, and Concerto di Flautist in Rome.

Jasmine Nawon Kim pursued doctoral studies in flute performance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where her teacher was Professor Alexander Murray. Her D.M.A. degree was recorded as the first doctoral degree of the flute major graduates from Seoul National University in Korea. Jasmine Nawon Kim was recipient of various scholarships and awards, among them, Jasmine Nawon Kim has been elected to the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. After receiving D.M.A. degree, she came back to Korea, and pursued a career as a professional flutist in Korea. She appeared as a soloist in Seoul National University Alumni Orchestra, Dae-Jeon Civic Orchestra, and In-Cheon Civic Orchestra. In addition, she performed in numerous concerts throughout Korea. She was awarded "the Top Ten Flutists of the Korea Awards" from "Korean Flutists Association" at the 1st Korean Flute Convention. Now, she is a professor at the Seoul Jazz Academy of the Berklee International Network Program. She also serves as a music director and conductor of the Leaders Flute Ensemble.
